ARS ELECTRONICA WORKSHOP - DAY 1

September 8, 2015

FOR 12 PARTICIPANTS IT ALL STARTED WITH A THEORETICAL INTRODUCTION AT GLEISHALLE POST CITY AT THE ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL. A JOURNEY THREW THE HISTORY OF LONGTIME-EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHY WHERE I PICKED OUT AROUND 30 OUTSTANDING ARTISTS FROM THE EARLY DAYS (1826 UP TILL THE 1990s) SO THE PEOPLE BECAME AN INSIGHT OF HOW THE LIGHTPAINTING HISTORY STARTED.

IN THE SECOND STEP I DEMONSTRATED "WHICH TOOL CREATES WHICH EFFECT" BY CRAWLING THREW MY TOOLBOX AND SHOWING VARIOUS OPTIONAL TOOLS. THERE´S ALSO A FULL ONLINE-PDF THAT GOES ALONG WITH THIS INTRODUCTION.

IN THE THIRD LAP WE WENT STRAIGHT TO THE USAGE OF TOOLS AND AFTER SOME DEMONSTRAITIONS (INCLUDING BLADES, BRUSHES, TORCHES, THE PIXELSTICK AND FLASHES), THE PARTICIPANTS WERE ALREADY EXPERIMENTING THEMSELVES AND GLEISHALLE BECAME THE EXPERIMENTAL PLAYGROUND. I ALWAYS LOVE TO SEE HOW THESE THINGS CAN TRIGGER PEOPLES CREATIVITY AND THE FIRST ATTEMPTS BY THE PARTICIPANTS WERE ALREADY EXCEPTIONAL. THANKS!
