3D SCULPTURES - THE VASARELY RMX (2013 - 2019)

The art of Victor Vasarely always was an inspiration for myself since my early childhood.

I developed the first series from a vectorized stencil for a repetative black and white wallart stencil over the length of 20m back in 2013.

Later on it turned out that the cutouts and the leftover DinA 0 stencils were excellent material for creating abstract 3D sculputures, which were related to typography and became the major objects of my first Vasarely RMX series of lightpaintings.

Handcrafted 3D typography-sculptures created from polyethylen cutouts coming from an original painting of Victor Vasarely. The leftover cutout-parts were so inspiring for me, that I worked out an extended photoseries with lightpaintings of the objects placed on mirror-foil and just illuminated them with a single ballpen-LED to create the right atmosphere for these minimalistic sculputures. That was back in 2013.

In 2018 I was asked to create a decorative christmas theme for Vienna based technology research center AIT - and again I tumbled over the stencil in my archive. I grabbed the material and cutted new parts out of the stencil to create a tall abstract 3D tree which I then combined with lightpainitng again.

As the final output was used for print and a 360° mapping-projection, I worked simultaneously on the production of lightpainting photos and film material.

For generating the film content, I placed the fragile tree on a motordriven roll-platform and simply worked with strobing lights in white and green.

The output was puristic rotations as well as capturing realtime-generated lightpainting clips with the capture-device-solution from Virtual.Ink.

To be honest, the output looked very impressive on the AIT christmas party, as from the invitation over the menue card up to the checkin counter and welcome poster everything was branded my lightpainted 3D tree photo.

Back home I decided to work out a one-minute audiovisual shortclip to finalize the mission with my own artistic interpretation, which is the combination of a dark acid track and a glitch cut of the video material.
