THE ROTATOR

THE ROTATOR IS A DIY TOOL THAT I´VE INVENTED FROM A BROKEN WASHINGMACHINE MOTORBLOCK - ALL IT TAKES IS THE USED HEAVY MAGNET-MOTOR, A WOOD SLATE OR STEEL PIPE AND SOME LIGHTS. IT´S A GREAT TOOL FOR EXPERIMENTING WITH BLADES, INBETWEEN-LENS-CLOSURE AND ZOOM-TECHNIQUES AND CAN CONVINCE BY IT´S SIMPLICITY.

SO BASICALLY I FOUND THIS SMOOTH SPINNING DOUBLE BEARRING AXIS MOTOR AND ADAPTED IT ON A ROLLING BOARD WITH JUST 4 SCREWS, ADDED A WOOD PANEL WITH A WHOLE OF 45° ON THE AXIS´CENTER, SPRAYED EVERYTHING BLACK TO MAKE IT DISAPPEAR IN THE EXPOSURE:

WITH THIS IT´S EASY TO CREATE REPETATIVE CIRCLES OR A SPINNING PYRAMID. A RC TO SWITCH THINGS ON OR OFF WILL ALLOW YOU TO WORK WITH COLOR CONTROL AND DEPENDING ON THE TRIPOD SETTINGS, THE SPEED OF SPINNING AND MOVEMENT OF THE BOARD CAN BE USED TO CREATE DIFFERENT LOOKS.

THE INTERESTING PART STARTS WITH YOUR OWN EXPEIMENTS, SPECIALLY THE UP- AND DOWN MOVEMENT OF THE TRIPOD - FOR THE PICTURE 1 ABOVE I ONLY USED 3 SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT VERTICAL POSITIONS AND HELD MY HAND IN FRONT OF THE LENS WHILE MOVING IT STEPWISE DOWN.

WANT TO REBUILT THIS ROTATOR? HERE´S WHAT YOU NEED:

- 1 HEAVY MAGNET-MOTOR (IDEALLY WITH DOUBLE BEARRING) E.G. FROM AN OLD WASHING MACHINE OR VENTILATOR

- A CARGO-TRANSPORT WOODPANEL (3 WHEELS OR MORE)

- WOOD-SCREWS TO FIX THE MOTORBLOCK IN THE CENTER OF THE WOODPANEL

- A WOODEN SLAT (CA 1m LONG) OR STEEL PIPE

- A DRILL TO MAKE A 45° HOLE ON ONE SIDE OF THE WOODEN SLAT

- A SCREW TO MOUNT THE WOODEN SLAT ON THE AXIS OF THE MOTORBLOCK

- BLACK CABLE TIES TO FIX THE LIGHTS ON THE WOODEN SLATE
